Michelle Tracey is a scenographer and designer for performance based in Tkaronto. She specializes in set and costume design, but she also enjoys working with lighting and video. Her 11 year professional career has spanned the fields of theatre, opera, dance, film and live events. Michelle earned her BFA Spec. Hon. from York University in Theatre Production & Design, and is a graduate of the 2016-2018 Soulpepper Academy. Michelle is also a trained wardrobe technician, and has constructed costumes for numerous professional productions. She is passionate about historical costume construction with a particular interest in corsetry, and enjoys taking on custom garment projects.
Michelle is a founding member of Triga Creative, a collective of designers exploring ecoscenography. Michelle is also a member of Associated Designers of Canada (IATSE ADC 659), has sister status with IATSE 873 (Costumes), and is a member of CAFTCAD.
Michelle was a three-time nominee for the Virginia & Myrtle Cooper Award for excellence in Costume Design, and a two-time nominee for the Pauline McGibbon Award. She has received three Dora Award nominations for scenic and costume design .
Michelle has designed for Soulpepper Theatre, The Stratford Festival, The Shaw Festival, Buddies in Bad Times, Canadian Stage, Tarragon Theatre, Nightwood Theatre, Soundstreams, Luminato Festival, Tapestry Opera, University of Toronto Opera, Renaissance Theatre, Theatre Smith-Gilmour, and the red light district, among other collaborations.
